As well as taking responsibility for school entries, public school students have also been prominent in RAS competitions aimed at encouraging the emerging leaders in future agriculture and assisted the efforts of leading studs, including family enterprises and studs run by the students themselves.
Many of the events, including the junior judging competitions, which run throughout the show in conjunction with major judging, and paraders feature finalists who are the best young competitors having gained entry as the highest performers in local shows around the state
Mr John Fairfax, the RAS Councillor with responsibility for the junior judging competitions at the Sydney Royal commended the standards of this year's competitors.
"There has been a marked improvement," Mr Fairfax said. "Something good is happening."
The Acting Director-General for Education and Communities, Pam Christie has reiterated last week's praise for the efforts of students from public schools and TAFE at the Sydney Royal Easter Show.
"Industry professionals and the huge crowds that come to the show cannot help but be impressed by the exemplary standards our students have attained," Ms Christie said.
"They can certainly hold their heads high.
"The students are a credit to themselves and everyone who has supported and encouraged their endeavours.
"The Sydney Royal is widely acknowledged as a pinnacle and our students' efforts have more than measured up to that tradition."
Ms Christie said that participation in the Sydney Royal was one avenue that reinforced the values that are taught in public schools and TAFE which will serve students well throughout life, work and further study.
The effectiveness of the teaching of these values is observed in many public school graduates who continue to be involved in activities at the Royal Easter Show and maintain contact with their old schools' teams.
