White Ribbon

White Ribbon Australia is an organisation dedicated to ending violence against women. As of Thursday 3rd March 2016, Forbes High School officially became a White Ribbon School joining over 350 schools around Australia in this worthwhile cause.

This will now increase our effort's as a school community to drive change in this issue both inside and outside the school.  As a White Ribbon School we continually advocate and raise awareness for the development of positive relationships and breaking the devastating cycle of domestic violence.

Forbes High School showcased its support of White Ribbon through various events during 2016 which includes;

On Friday 29 July we held our second annual ‘Boys Night In'. Our male students and another significant male in their lives are invited to participate in activities to at our school which aim to build capacity to support being a positive male role model.

Our school is also in partnership with the Forbes Domestic Violence and other organisations which did showcase ‘Iceberg', Kirrily Dear's documentary of her ultra-marathon run to raise awareness of domestic violence.

On the 25th November, the school marched as one in support of White Ribbon Day and to raise awareness of the devastating effects of domestic and family violence within our community.

White Ribbon Boys (advocates)

This is a new initiative being introduced in 2017 and is another stage in our development as a White Ribbon School. The team comprises of male volunteer representatives from Years 8-12. These boys will be trained in Peer Skills with a focus on learning about Family and Domestic Violence and healthy relationships. They will also undertake training with White Ribbon Australia. Their role in the school will be as role models, advocates, spokespeople and the organisers of White Ribbon and Healthy Relationship events.
