For more information, visit the student wellbeing section of the department’s website.

Like all NSW public schools, we promote the healthy development of students through:

  • school programs and practices that protect and promote health and safety
  • supporting individual students who need help with health issues
  • providing first aid and temporary care of students who become unwell or who have an accident at school.

Student wellbeing

Like all NSW public schools, we provide safe learning and teaching environments to encourage healthy, happy, successful and productive students.

The department is committed to creating quality learning opportunities for children and young people. These opportunities support wellbeing through positive and respectful relationships and fostering a sense of belonging to the school and community.

The Wellbeing Framework for Schools helps schools support the cognitive, physical, social, emotional and spiritual development of students and allows them to connect, succeed and thrive throughout their education.

Positive Behaviour for Learning

At our school, we use Positive Behaviour for Learning – a whole-school approach for creating a positive, safe and supportive school climate where students can learn and develop. Our whole school community works together to establish expected behaviours and teach them to all students.

  • Support students in early childhood settings through to senior years of schooling;
  • Enable our  school to establish  a continuum of supports that are intensified to meet the needs of every student;
  • Ensure it is team driven, using a problem solving approach (data, systems and practices) that engages students, parents and all school staff;
  • Establish positive social expectations for all in the school community; and
  • Provide a framework for the school and its community to collectively support the wellbeing of every student.

Acknowledgment program

Forbes High School values the positive approach to learning students undertake on a daily basis. As part of our school approach to Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) we have an acknowledgement program to recognise and reward the academic achievement, school participation and positive learning students display everyday in our school.

This program is aimed to ensure that all students regardless of skill or ability have the potential to be publicly acknowledged and recognised for sustained effort in student behaviour and social skills.

Students are acknowledged through a variety of ways. These include;

  1. Weekly- Canteen voucher purple slips awarded to students weekly.

  2. Each term- Winners are drawn at the need of each term and are acknowledged and rewarded.
  3. Semester recognition- This occurs twice a year as a whole group reward and acknowledgement.
