Forbes High Schools Wellness Hub has taken another positive step forward, receiving recognition at the Public Education Foundations Minister's and Secretary's Awards 2017.
Education Minister Mr Rob Stokes honoured the most outstanding students, teachers and parents across NSW public schools last week at the awards. "The students, staff and schools we are recognizing reflects the excellence we see every day in NSW public schools," Mr Stokes said.
Relieving Director for Public Schools Mr Charles Dwyer and Relieving Principal Mr Jason Nottingham attended the awards ceremony, accepting the Secretary's Award for Outstanding School Initiative 2017, from Department of Education's Secretary Mr Mark Scott.
The award recognizes a NSW Public School's commitment to teaching and learning outcomes, leadership, supporting their students and/ or creating a sustainable learning environment via the delivery of a discreet program or initiative.
Relieving Principal Mr Jason Nottingham said, "It was fantastic to have our school and the Wellness Hub acknowledged in this way. This initiative has really been a team effort with many staff at our school involved in getting this initiative up and going and we couldn't have done it without them."
There have been two main ingredients for the success of the Wellness Hub for Forbes High School. One has been the funding through the National Education Reform Agreement, which was better known as Gonski funding. Needs based funding is important as it takes into account students needs and backgrounds and with local schools local decisions, the funding allows the flexibility to implement programs such as the Wellness Hub. The other has been the partnerships developed between the school and local community service providers." Having strong partnerships with our community service providers has been vital towards the success of the Wellness Hub and supporting our students", said Mr Nottingham." Supporting students and families with access to professional, confidential support services has been critical to ensuring students at Forbes High School are supported through a holistic approach to educational and learning outcomes."
Not only is Forbes High School supporting its students, but they are also supporting other schools in the region by providing school tours each term of the facility.
